We’ve just added two optimization features that will have a major impact on your website loading speed and SEO. One is fixing the random image names generated by Brizy, this will help with SEO. The second is we’ve added native ShortPixel image optimization at a press of a button.
This is yet another important step to strengthen the power of Brizy and to allow you to create amazing custom websites that are fast and perform better in terms of SEO.
Here is what you’ll find in this article. Use the links below to jump to a specific section:
ShortPixel is one of the best image optimization services out there. We love it and use it frequently in our personal projects so it came as a natural choice to integrate it with Brizy.
The ShortPixel image optimization reduces the Brizy image sizes and the results are no different in quality from the original. This means your pages will load faster, you’ll have more page views, a pleasant user experience and better search ranking potential.
Another two advantages to consider if your website is using a lot of images: you’ll use less bandwidth and the backups will go smoother and faster.
The ShortPixel image optimization is best performed once you’ve finished your website. No point in optimizing your images a couple at a time. Do them all at once at the end.
An important thing to keep in mind is that the images used in Brizy are in a separate folder on the server so if you use the regular WordPress ShortPixel plugin or any other image optimization plugin for that matter you’ll optimize the media library images and not the Brizy images.
The integration of ShortPixel we’ve added in Brizy is a native built-in integration via API. We send the Brizy images via API to their servers and overwrite the originals once we get them back.
Go to Brizy > Optimize images. Here you see the number of images that can be optimized. You’ll need a ShortPixel API Key in order to start optimizing your images.
Go to the Settings tab and input your ShortPixel API Key. If you don’t have one, you can get one for free on their website. You have 100 images/month included for free and different pricing plans and options based on your needs.
Select the type of compression you want and hit the Save button at the bottom. We usually go for Glossy as it is the middle ground between file size reduction and quality loss.
Switch to the Optimize tab and press the Optimize Images button to start the optimization process. Brizy generates 6 image size for every image you add in Brizy. That counts for normal and retina versions for each screen size (desktop, tablet, and mobile).
These different images sizes are displayed to your users based on the device and resolution they are using when accessing your website.
Wait for the ShortPixel image optimization process to finish. This may take a while based on the number of images you have. If you leave the page the process will pause, and when you come back you’ll need to start it again. In case that happens, don’t worry, the ShortPixel image optimization will continue with the rest of the images. The images that were already optimized will be skipped.
We are currently working on a bunch of things, a lot of improvements for features that are already in Brizy but also new features that are a long time coming.
Here are a couple of things that we work on that we plan to launch in the near future:
1. New Block kit – We are implementing right now the new block kit. It comes with a new modern minimalist design style and with a more vibrant color palette. Check out all the blocks in this Sketch prototype.
2. Custom Fonts – we are implementing custom fonts in Brizy as we speak.
3. Form V2. – improvements to Form that will include radio boxes and checkboxes, SMTP settings, Recaptcha
4. Unsplash & Image optimization. – we have the Unsplash integration in the works plus we are looking into some image optimization.
