Starting today you can create and display dynamic custom fields created with the popular Meta Box plugin. Meta Box completes the list of custom field plugins compatible with Brizy. ACF, Toolset and Pods are already integrated and we continue to improve on them.
This is yet another important step to strengthen the power of Brizy Pro and to allow you to create amazing custom websites. We are one step closer to the official Brizy Pro launch.
More about on how we plan to launch the Pro plus a list of all the features we’ll add in the coming weeks/months can be found in this article.
Here is what you’ll find in this article. Use the links below to jump to a specific section:
You might ask yourself why do we need custom fields (options)? Isn’t WordPress packed with everything we need?
As you may know, WordPress was created primarily as a blogging tool and not as CMS to create websites. Sure you can create a simple basic website with WordPress out of the box, but if you want a more complex website, I’m thinking real estate, events or auto-motor, you’ll need the power of a custom fields plugin.
What a plugin like Meta Box, ACF or Toolset does is lets you add custom fields you might need in pages or posts. Let’s take a look at a standard WordPress page:
Not much to work with if you want to create an event page for example. Most likely you’ll need a speaker field, an event description, an event image, a price and so on.
Meta Box lets you add all that.
Then you can use those fields to dynamically display them with Brizy and together with the Templating feature you can create some cool templates that will apply across multiple (events/ real estate/hotels/cars/etc) pages of your stunning website.
Meta Box Basics
Most likely you know Meta Box inside out, it is mainly used by developers as it involves to dabble in code a bit.
I’ll still go through the steps on how display Meta Box dynamic content with Brizy. We’ll create an Event page just to show you a couple of basic things you can do with Meta Box and Brizy:.
Step 1. Install the Meta Box plugin from the WordPress repository.
Step 2. After installing Meta Box, you won’t see anything in the WordPress admin area. The plugin doesn’t have any admin page for configuration or settings. Instead of that, it provides an API that you can use to speed up the process of creating meta boxes and custom fields.
You can also use the Meta Box Online Generator. This lets you basically create all your custom fields you need and generates the code for you.
Step 3. Add the generated code into your functions.php file. I’ll not go into how to do that as this is not the scope here. You can check the Meta Box quick start guide for a step by step tutorial.
Step 4. Now that you’ve added your advanced custom fields to your page, you can use Brizy’s dynamic content to create a template for your events. If you don’t know how to use the dynamic content in Brizy, check out this article.
Here is how our dummy event example looks on the front end.
We are currently working on a bunch of things, a lot of improvements for features that are already in Brizy but also new features that are a long time coming.
Here are 3 things that we work on that we plan to launch in the near future:
1. Live Thumbs – This will let you view live previews of your blocks in the sidebar, Anchor link and Saved and Global popup. No more “Started from Scratch” previews.
2. Anchor links – Control over the anchor links. We now generate random anchor links for every block. You’ll be able to control the name of the anchor link directly in the anchor link popup.
3. Integrations – Form integrations will let you connect your form with the most popular email and marketing services. We”ll start with 12 integrations at first and continue to add more.
The 1st 12 are: Mailchimp, Sendinblue, Zapier, Campaign Monitor, ConvertKit, Active Campaign, GetResponse, Mailjet, egoi, Hubspot, Mailerlite and Drip.
This is just the beginning, more cool features are coming to Brizy in the following weeks. Please add any suggestions/issues you have on GitHub. Also, consider joining our Facebook community where we discuss all things Brizy every day.

Until next time.
